Where Is God When It Hurts:
An Overview of Human Pain and Tragedy from a Faith Perspective

Classes will be held at 9:30 am
Beginning Sunday, January 26

NO class February 9 (one service)

Overview: One of the most common issues discussed in the Bible is God’s response to human pain, loss, and tragedy. Scripture spends a great deal of time discussing the World as it exists, and the response of the faith to human life events. In this 6 week study participants will gain a deeper understanding of pain, loss, hurt, and suffering from a faith perspective. Further one will have their sense of faith and hope deepened by exploration of Scripture and people as it speaks specifically to specific examples of human experience.

Week One: Creation-God’s Plan-What Happened?

Week Two: The first consequences: Finiteness and human limitations

Week Three: The Passion of the Savior. The transformative and redemptive aspect suffering and pain, what does it tell us?

Week Four: Specific human experience in the life of faith: -Stress/Trauma/PTSD

Week Five: Death of a Child, extended illness and disease. Terminal illness and death.

Week Six: Loss of love, divorce and brokenness. Family System issues.

About the Teacher: Peter Gregory is a retired Navy Chaplain with 22 years of active service in 19 foreign countries and deployments in 3 combat tours. The Secretary of the Navy awarded him the Meritorious Service Medal and the Navy Commendation Medal with 4 stars.

He is a Board Certified Chaplain, with clinical experience in the Emergency Dept. of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center-Oakland. And the Veterans Administration Hospital Systems in Stress and Trauma rehabilitation.

He is a graduate of Regent University with a Doctor of Ministry in family systems counseling. He is a retired Teaching Elder in the PCUSA after 38 years of combined service.
